Rangers boss Steven Gerrard issues Alfredo Morelos transfer ultimatum

Rangers beat Derby on Sunday as they continued their fine preparations for the new Scottish Premiership season.

Steven Gerrard is desperate to secure silverware after missing out during his first season as Gers boss and will need his best players to be committed to the cause.

Morelos split opinion in Glasgow last season by receiving five red cards while scoring 30 goals, and has been linked with moves to both England and Germany this summer.

When asked whether the Colombian international will definitely stay a Rangers player past the current transfer window, Gerrard outlined the decision that the forward has to make.

He said: “Alfredo is a huge part of what we are trying to do here.

“Instead of me answering this question every single press conference, I’m going to do everything I can to put Alfredo in front of you guys.

“Then you can ask him the question whether he wants to be part of this going forward.

“I can only say I want him to be part of it. The decision lands with Alfredo.”

The 22-year-old openly discussed his desire to leave Rangers in January, and outlined his dream of playing in the Premier League.

He told Colombian media: ”If you do things right, there’s always someone watching, I don’t know what will happen.

“I hope to keep doing very well and look for a bigger club, in the Premier League at the end of the season.

“I’d like also the Spanish league or the Italian one.

“I am enjoying a very nice experience here in Scotland, I have been welcomed in the best possible way.

“I think I have done all right and I am happy with what I have achieved at Rangers so far. I am also very happy here.

“It wasn’t easy to adapt to life here, but the atmosphere during games is terrific. I’m at one of the largest clubs in Scotland. The fans are crazy both in and out of the stadiums!”

Morelos then seemed to change his mind by signing a contract extension in March, but that hasn’t stopped several clubs scouting him towards the end of the season.
