Trent Alexander-Arnold is set for a month on the sidelines after suffering a calf injury.
The defender pulled up in the second-half of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Manchester City on Sunday.
He appeared to go down off the ball without making any impact with anyone else on the pitch, with Jurgen Klopp immediately withdrawing him.
The youngster was able to hobble off the pitch unaided, but it was confirmed on Monday that he had indeed suffered an injury to his calf muscle.
Alexander-Arnold is now set for a month in the treatment room before returning, with Klopp reluctant to rush him back despite the packed fixture schedule.
After the news was confirmed, the Reds defender took to Instagram to post a picture with the caption: “Recovery time.”
And his international team-mate Raheem Sterling was one of the first to go out of his way to wish Alexander-Arnold luck in his rehab.
He commented on the post, saying: “get well soon g” with a heart emoji.
Alexander-Arnold was set to link up with Sterling this week for England, but was withdrawn from international duty by Klopp almost instantly after the match.
His injury sparked concerns over the volume of fixtures Premier League players are being forced to play in the current season.
Klopp and City boss Pep Guardiola both called on league officials to look at what they’re putting players through and ease the burden.
Guardiola said after Sunday’s 1-1 draw: “Trent Alexander-Arnold, international English player, now injured.
“Here we believe we are more special, we don’t protect the players, so that is why it is a disaster.
“This calendar came from a year before and I will demand for players to come back otherwise it will be difficult to maintain it.”
