Rafael da Silva has named his dream Manchester United six-a-side team based on his time at Old Trafford.

The former United right-back, who now plays for French outfit Lyon, spent seven years at Old Trafford, playing under Sir Alex Ferguson during some of the club’s best years.

Reflecting on his time in Manchester, the Brazilian was asked to select a six-a-side team featuring the best players he played with.

In goal, Edwin van der Sar was chosen ahead of David de Gea, while he picked Rio Ferdinand as the main defensive unit for the team.

Club legend Ryan Giggs made the cut along with Juventus and former Real Madrid man Cristiano Ronaldo, while Wayne Rooney – who now plays for Derby County – was also given a spot.

Perhaps the most curious selection was that of Antonio Valencia, who was picked ahead of the likes of Paul Scholes,

Rafael told MUTV: ‘Ooh, it’s hard. I put Van der Sar in goal – sorry David!

‘I have to put Van Der Sar. Ferdinand. I put Giggs on the left, he [can] score from the middle.

‘Ronaldo, Rooney and Antonio Valencia.’

De Gea and Juan Mata are the two current Manchester Untied players Rafael is still in touch with.

‘I know David De Gea, we keep in touch,’ said Rafael. ‘Juan Mata. [But] all the guys I played with, they left!

‘So there’s not many I played with [still there] but the guys that I played with before, of course we keep in touch.

He added: ‘I miss United a lot. I still receive the messages from the supporters, from everybody.

‘Five years is a long time, but, for me, it’s like one or two years. I keep remembering everything about United.’
