Rachel Riley says 'love you Britain' with Tories on course for big win


Countdown star Rachel Riley was among many celebs to take to social media after the exit poll put the Tories on to win a huge majority to push through Mr Johnson’s deal with the EU .

The brainiac, who has campaigned to keep Labour out of No10 over the party’s anti-Semitism scandal, said she would back the Lib Dems in the election.

Ms Riley, who is Jewish, took to Twitter shortly after the exit poll came out to declare “love you Britain”.

The 33-year-old said she would vote ex-Labour MP Chuka Umunna, who stood as a Lib Dem in Cities of London and Westminster.

While some, including Good Morning presenter Piers Morgan’s son Spencer, was delighted with the Tory win , other celebs were noticeably upset with the results.

Grime singer Stormzy retweeted a stark post by Brit journalist Mehdi Hasan, who warned the country’s future appeared bleak after the exit poll said the Tories would win a stonking majority, taking 368 seats.

The 26-year-old shared the tweet with his 1.3million followers, which said: “Dark day for minorities in the UK.

“Especially for British Muslims who watched as a man who said ‘Islam was the problem’, mocked veiled Muslim women, and also turned a blind eye to massive anti-Muslim hatred in his party, was just given a landslide majority by their fellow Britons.”

Stormzy had backed Labour in the election, who are on course for their worst performance in decades.

He also retweeted another post that said: “Whatever happens tonight, @jeremycorbyn has been a fantastic leader.

“He has provided genuine hope for the youth of this country and enabled us to imagine better conditions for ourselves. He boldly spoke out against injustice and inequality. I will always respect him.”
