Rachel Riley: Countdown presenter says Russian mother-in-law is 'stranded' after visit

Rachel Riley has got an unlikely housemate due to the coronavirus pandemic. The Countdown presenter said her husband Pasha Kovalev’s mum is living with them after getting “stranded”.

The 34-year-old is seemingly delighted to have an “extra pair of hands” at home following the birth of her first child.

The small screen favourite and dancer spouse, 40, welcomed baby daughter Maven in December.

Rachel spoke out about being a new parent in lockdown during an interview with this week’s Radio Times.

She commented: “Maven is such a gorgeous little thing and every day we put her in the sling and go for a walk.

Pasha went on to lift the Glitterball with the late Caroline Flack the following year, before taking part in four further series’.

Meanwhile, during the chat, Rachel went on to discuss motherhood and give an update on Countdown’s return.

On if she felt robbed of the experience of being with other new parents, she said she did to a certain degree.

“All my friends have got little ones and we had been doing playdates and water-baby lessons,” she recalled. “So all that’s gone.

“But like everyone else, we’ve discovered these video-conferencing apps — the challenge is scheduling in calls when everyone’s baby is asleep.”

Addressing the latest in regards to the Channel 4 favoruite, she said they were “playing it by ear”.

She added: “Nick [Hewer] is in the protected age category, so we won’t be rushing back — safety remains paramount.

“So Channel 4 will be reshowing some Champion of Champions episodes that haven’t been aired for a few years instead.”
