Race for No10 turns into clash between Jon Snow and Luke Skywalker as Jeremy Hunt and BoJo pick heroes

THE race for No10 turned into a clash between Jon Snow and Luke Skywalker yesterday as Jeremy Hunt and Boris Johnson picked their screen heroes.

The duo were asked which Game of Thrones character they most identified with during hustings in Northern Ireland, where the hit TV drama was filmed.

Jeremy Hunt, who had flown to Belfast on the same plane as his rival,  said: “I’m not going to say something clichéd like Jon Snow.

“Oh go on then, Jon Snow”.

In a clear parable for the Tory contestant’s campaign, the brooding but noble hero Snow is thought to die — only to shock viewers when he is brought back to life.

Meanwhile Boris refused to name anyone, claiming he hadn’t watched enough of the mythical show.

Instead, he appeared to opt for Luke Skywalker from Star Wars — which was filmed in Ireland and has a link to Mr Johnson’s West London constituency.

He insisted: “I identify very much with the guy with the lightsaber. The Jedi Knights! Yes.

“We invented the lightsaber in Uxbridge. It is wielded in Northern Ireland. And the resulting film is sold around the world and grossed more than any other in history . . . or something like that”.

But  he  gaffed on his geography, as Star Wars was actually filmed in the Republic of Ireland.

Earlier, Mr Hunt posted  a snap of himself working on the plane  with a jokey caption. He tweeted: “Boris out of sight in the back of the plane. 4 armed police officers between us just in case.”

The candidates were obliged to go to Northern Ireland — as  it is one of the Tories’ nine regions — despite the party having just 500 members there.
