A pair of raccoon robbers with perfect natural ‘masks’ broke into a bank in a brazen attempt to steal some cookies.

The animal intruders found their way into a Chase Bank in Redwood City, California on Tuesday, but they weren’t able to make out with any money or baked goods in the process.

A bank customer thought he saw a stuffed animal on a desk, only to later realize it was a real-life raccoon after it moved, according to ABC 5.

Sat nearby was a large box of almond cookies believed to have been the main target of the raccoons.

Peninsula Humane Society and Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals were called, with communications manager Buffy Martin Tarbox saying it was unusual to respond to a ‘break-in’ at a bank.

‘Since the bank robbers were masked bandits of the wildlife kind, we were indeed the appropriate responders,’ Tarbox said. ‘After about ten minutes of chasing the raccoons around the bank, we were finally able to safely shoo them outside. They apparently didn’t want to leave the bank.’

Tarbox speculated that due to muddy paw prints on a tree outside the bank, the raccoons were able to climb up to the roof of the bank and crawl in through the air ducts.

‘There were several broken ceiling tiles, and the masked bandits knocked papers around and even a computer over,’ Tarbox said. ‘Thankfully the raccoons were not injured during their morning escapade, and to our knowledge they didn’t abscond with any money.’

He said the raccoons fell through the ceiling during their escapade, which led to some damage inside of the bank.

Raccoons are highly intelligent animals, according to Tarbox. They have opposable thumbs on their front paws and are capable of learning complex methods to gain entry into buildings.

The raccoons were not able to steal any cookies, but they did escape the bank without harm.
