Rabid remake gets a first trailer

A first trailer for the Soska Sisters’ Rabid remake has been released this week. The twins, who previously helmed horror outings American Mary and Vendetta in 2012, have set about remaking David Cronenberg’s 1977 body horror classic with as much joie de vivre as you’d expect from the pair, and the film looks just as stomach-churning as their previous efforts.

Laura Vandervoort (Supergirl, Jigsaw) stars in Rabid as Rose, a would-be fashion designer whose face gets mangled in a terrible accident. After she opts for experimental treatment to restore her former beauty, Rose starts to notice some unpleasant physical changes that don’t just affect her, but those she comes into contact with, too.

Co-starring Mackenzie Gray (Legion), Stephen McHattie (Pontypool) and Greg Bryk (Ad Astra), check out the first trailer for Rabid below, which is littered with Cronenberg homages…

“It’s a tremendous honour to be re-imaging David’s 1977 body horror classic, Rabid, with such incredible support behind us,” the twins said when they first announced the project last year. “We are not fans of soulless remakes as seems to be the trend these days as they disrespect the fans and the original body of work. Our Rabid is a continuation of the thoughts and conversation David started with his original piece and modernised through a female perspective. This film will truly honour not only the original but Cronenberg’s entire body of work.”

Rabid will get its world premiere at FrightFest 2019 in London this summer, but hasn’t set an official release date yet.
