Queen's speech date: When is the Queen's Speech? Why is Parliament prorogued AGAIN?

During the speech, the Queen will outline laws the government wishes to bring to the floor in the presence of MPs and dignitaries from the House of Lords.

Once she has finished, two MPs will deliver additional opening speeches, followed by an attempt by the Prime Minister to “sell” his intentions.

The leader of the opposition may deliver a response, and other MPs can deliver their verdict on the government’s intentions in a “humble address”.

There is a vote five days following the address, in which MPs declare whether they accept or reject the government’s plans to bring in new legislation.

Losing this vote can be considered the equivalent of a vote of no-confidence.
