A tiny puppy had to be rescued from a drain pipe in a delicate operation by an after-hours plumber.

Troopie managed to get wedged inside a bathroom pipe before his fearful owner called for help at around 11pm on Saturday, March 7.

Joseph Egan, who owns The Brisbane Plumbers, said he initially thought the call was a prank until he heard how panicked the unnamed owner was. Troopie – who was calling out throughout his ordeal – had fallen down the bathroom floor drain and was trapped inside after the floor drain cover had popped off.

After locating exactly where the stricken dog was, the after-hours plumber cut the section of the drain out and tried to reach the spot where he was wedged in the pipe.

When that didn’t work, Joseph, 33, softly shook the pipe in a downward action and Troopie quickly popped out.

Joseph said he could hear the puppy calling out throughout the whole process.

He said: ‘It was reassuring that we could hear it because we knew it was still alive.’

Troopie was uninjured, but said to be a little distressed, and went back into the arms of his relieved owner.

Joseph added: ‘I went and saw it a few days afterwards and it is healthy and doing well.’
