PT camera hacker finally confirms the identity of P.T.'s protagonist

“Just to put any uncertainty finally to rest after all this time…”

A couple of months back, Imogen reported Lance McDonald – the modder behind a number of cool hacks in Bloodborne and Dark Souls – had uncovered the horrifying realisation P.T.’s terrifying antagonist, Lisa, is, quite literally, attached to you as you roam that looping hallway. A few weeks later I had the dubious pleasure of reporting that the camera hack had also uncovered Lisa’s headless body lying in a bloody bathtub.

Well, now McDonald’s back, and whilst it was always presumed that the first-person protagonist in the P.T. / Silent Hills teaser was Norman Reedus, McDonald is able to confirm it once and for all.

“Just to put any uncertainty finally to rest after all this time, yes, the guy you play as in P.T. is the same guy we see in the ending cinematic,” McDonald tweeted (thanks, GameRant). “Not that there any real doubt, but yeah, it’s Norman Reedus the whole time.”

The latest rumour – and honestly, this is a rumour, so please employ generous handfuls of salt – about the doomed Silent Hills suggested the game was planning to send IRL messages to your phone and email as if the game had taken on Christine-esque sentience as you played it.

Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima recently revealed he’s watching horror movies again with a view to making “the scariest horror game”. In a tweet on his personal Twitter account, Kojima admitted that whilst developing P.T. – the playable teaser that turned out to be a secret announcement for an all-new Silent Hill game, Silent Hills – he rented horror The Eye but it was “too scary to finish watching”. He also admitted that he was so scared by the cover, he “rented the disc only”.

Secret features are still being discovered in the original PlayStation 2 version of Silent Hill 2 18 years after the seminal psychological horror game was released. Twitterers punk7890 and Bigmanjapan discovered that a secret mini-map and a Save Anywhere feature can be unlocked once players have completed the game and received the Dog Ending.

A group of volunteer developers and modders have also been quietly enhancing and improving the PC release of celebrated psychological horror, Silent Hill 2.
