PSN DOWN: PS4 server status news as PlayStation Network hit by maintenance error

PS4 consoles are currently unable to connect to the PlayStation Network tonight, Sony has confirmed.

Most of the core PSN server services are down tonight for PS4 gamers.

The news comes following a sharp spike in reports of an outage and seeing a PlayStation maintenance error.

It’s unclear what is causing tonight’s outage, but it appears to be affecting a lot of console owners.

“We’re aware that some users are experiencing issues logging into PSN.”

“You may have some difficulty launching games, applications, or online features,” a message from Sony PlayStation reads.

“Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and we thank you for your patience.”

And it’s not just PS4 consoles hit by tonight’s PSN issues, with Sony listing PS Vita and PS3 console as affected.

It’s unclear how long tonight’s outage will last but it appears that most core services are offline.

This includes everything from buying games from the PlayStation Store, to logging in and changing console options.

“I mean, if you’re going to do maintenance you can at least send your users a PlayStation message letting us know a day beforehand,” one user writes.

But it appears that the maintenance message gamers are receiving is just part of today’s outage, which appears to be unplanned.

No maintenance message has been shared by Sony tonight on the usual server-status PSN pages.

The good news is that the large number of outage reports are starting to drop, meaning that things could be returning to normal for PlayStation Network users soon.
