PS5 games news: First PlayStation 5 release officially CONFIRMED

The PS5 release date may be more than a year away, but it looks like we have official confirmation about one of the console’s launch games.

While titles like Starfield, Elder Scrolls 6 and GTA 6 are expected to launch on PS5 at some point in the future, Techland has given fans their first new game guarantee.

In an interview with WCCFTech, a Techland spokesperson said that upcoming release Dying Light 2 would be released across different generations.

This means not only will it launch on PS4 and Xbox One in 2020, but it will also come to the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.

Asked about the possibility of a cross-gen release, a Techland spokesperson said: “Techland always has an eye on the latest new toys!

“To be more specific – yes, the plan since the beginning of production has been to make Dying Light 2 a cross-generation title.”

Of course, Microsoft and Sony have already confirmed backwards compatibility for the PS5 and Xbox Scarlett.

However, Techland’s comments suggest that Dying Light 2 will have a standalone release on the consoles, presumably with vastly superior visuals and loading speeds.

Dying Light 2 is an open world first-person adventure set in a zombie-ravaged city.

The game features first-person combat with free-running, parkour and survival-based scavenging.

“It’s been 15 years since humanity lost to the virus,” reads the Dying Light 2 description.

“The last great human settlement exists within an unforgiving, infected world, plunged into a modern dark age.

“During the day, bandits, factions and starving survivors roam the streets scavenging for scraps – or someone to take them from, by violence if necessary. At night the infected roam free, evacuating their dark hideouts to prey on the living.”

As for the PS5, Sony’s next-gen console is expected to launch towards the tail-end of 2020.

The PS5 is certainly shaping up to be a beast, supporting 8K resolution, ray-tracing and much faster loading times.

The latter is possible thanks to the specialised solid-state drive, which will make a huge difference to processing speeds.

In Spider-Man on a PS4 Pro, for example, it can take upwards of 15 seconds to fast travel from one location to another. The PS5, on the other hand, will be able to handle the same task in less than a second.

Worlds can also be rendered at far greater speeds, which should inject more pace into games.
