PS4 VR games update as possible new PlayStation reveal is teased

PS4 VR gamers could be getting a brand new release from one of the most highly anticipated virtual reality launches.

Confirmed earlier in 2019, we now know that Valve is working on a new Half-Life experience.

Half-Life: Alyx will be a VR first-person shooter launching on the Steam Store next year.

More was supposed to be shared about the new title at The Game Awards, with a Tweet from Valve confirming: “We’re sorry to say Half-Life: Alyx won’t be shown at The Game Awards tonight.

“The team is hard at work on the game, and we’re excited to show you more in the new year as we approach the March release!”

That left a bit of a hole for Half-Life fans waiting on the next update from the exciting project.

But that was soon filled by the news that Half-Life Alyx could arrive on the PS4 VR platform in the future.

That’s not to say that it will be available on March 2020, the official release date for Half-Life Alyx.

But it does mean that one of the big Virtual Reality experiences of next year could one day arrive on PlayStation VR.

The source of this news is PushSquare, which recently asked Valve about its plans for the new Half-Life game.

From what was found out from Designer Greg Coomer, the “initial” release of Half-Life: Alyx will be limited to SteamVR only.

However, that doesn’t mean that PS4 gamers won’t get to experience some time in the future.

Coomer told PushSquare: “We believe Sony’s VR platform has been a huge success for the medium, and we assume that lots of Sony customers would love to experience this new chapter of Half-Life.”

Coomber confirmed that Valve is now working on a PSVR port at the moment but has “not ruled anything out”.

The only issue, for now, is that the PlayStation VR may not have the specs Valve are looking to support with its new game.

However, that could all change with the launch of a PlayStation VR headset in the future.

Sony is reportedly working on something right now, which would no doubt be an upgrade on the current tech.

A PSVR2 announcement isn’t expected alongside the unveiling of the PS5 console, but it is something being worked on for the future.

And with that in mind, why wouldn’t Valve want its big ambitious VR game on the biggest virtual reality platform?

If PSVR has proven popular on the PS4 console, there’s no reason to think Sony won’t emulate this success in the future. More on the background of Half-Life Alyx can be found below: “Half-Life: Alyx is Valve’s VR return to the Half-Life series.

“It’s the story of an impossible fight against a vicious alien race known as the Combine, set between the events of Half-Life and Half-Life 2.

“Playing as Alyx Vance, you are humanity’s only chance for survival. The Combine’s control of the planet since the Black Mesa incident has only strengthened as they corral the remaining population in cities.

“Among them are some of Earth’s greatest scientists: you and your father, Dr. Eli Vance.

“As founders of a fledgeling Resistance, you’ve continued your clandestine scientific activity—performing critical research and building invaluable tools for the few humans brave enough to defy the Combine. Every day, you learn more about your enemy, and every day you work toward finding a weakness.”

As mentioned above, Half-Life Alyx currently has a release date set for March 2020, on SteamVR only.
