PS4 system update 7.01 PATCH NOTES for new PlayStation download – here's what it does


Sony has released a brand new PS4 system update for December 2019. The new PlayStation update brings the system to version 7.01. Needless to say, it’s a required download if you want to access things like the PlayStation Store and the likes. But what does it do exactly? Read on to read the full patch notes for PS4 system update 7.01.

As you’ve probably guessed by the lack of fanfare from Sony, this is a relatively small update that makes a few changes to the backend of the console.

This means improvements to system performance and stability, but none of the killer new features that fans have been waiting for. 

Main features in version 7.01 update…

• This system software update improves system performance.

With an influx of new PS4 gamers this Christmas, Sony will be hard at work tweaking network services and the likes. This will ensure online multiplayer doesn’t go down on Christmas Day.

Sony is also fresh off the back of its final PlayStation 4 State of Play live stream event for 2019.

Sony’s big State of Play event featured reveals for new games like Resident Evil 3 Remake and puzzler Superliminal.

Resident Evil 3 Remake was given an April 2020 release date, meaning there’s not long to wait for a return to Raccoon City.

The latest Resident Evil remake also comes with a  free copy of co-op game Resident Evil Resistance.

Elsewhere, Dreams has been given a February 14, 2020 release date, while Untitled Goose Game was confirmed for this month.

Kingdom Hearts 3 expansion Re Mind gets a January 2020 release date for PS4, complete with new playable characters and areas to explore.

The stream ended with a teaser for Ghosts of Tsushima, which will be shown off in full during this week’s Game Awards.

Despite rumours to the contrary, Sony did confirm that Ghosts of Tsushima would launch for PS4.

The Game Awards takes place on December 14 at 1.30am GMT for fans in the UK.
