PS4 News: Shock games update as The Last of 2 delayed along with new PlayStation exclusive

PS4 gamers have a great collection of titles being released as part of PlayStation’s 2020 launch plans.

And one of the biggest is The Last of Us Part 2, which was first expected to arrive early next year.

Naughty Dog confirmed their plans, only to reveal this week that they had to delay their original plans.

And the reason behind this will make sense to fans, even if they will be disappointed about having to wait longer to play the highly anticipated sequel.

In a new post written to fans, Neil Druckmann, Creative Director at Naughty Dog, revealed that the game needed more polish.

And the only way to do that with the time they had left was to either compromise in certain areas, or delay the game.

The decision was made to push back The Last of Us Part 2 until May 2019, with Druckmann explaining to fans:

“It was during the last few weeks, as we were closing out sections of the game, that we realised we simply didn’t have enough time to bring the entire game up to a level of polish we would call Naughty Dog quality.

“At this point, we were faced with two options: compromise parts of the game or get more time.

“We went with the latter, and this new release date allows us to finish everything to our level of satisfaction while also reducing stress on the team.

“While we’re relieved that we won’t have to compromise our vision, we’re disappointed that we weren’t able to avoid this exact situation.

“We wish we could’ve foreseen the amount of polish we needed, but the size and scope of this game got the better of us. We hate disappointing our fans and for that we’re sorry.

“We hope you understand that this additional time ensures that The Last of Us Part II lives up to our collective ambition as well as our commitment to the highest level of quality.

“We know the extra few months will add to what may already be an excruciating wait for all of us.”

A delay isn’t that surprising for a game like The Last of Us Part 2, considering past projects from Naughty Dog have needed the same work.

But what might prove more shocking to fans is that another PlayStation exclusive is being pushed back too.

According to Kotaku’s Jason Schreier, Ghost of Tsushima is also being delayed due to the changes to The Last of Us 2 schedule.

This other major PlayStation release was reportedly being primed for the first-half of 2020 before the new delays affecting Naughty Dog.

But while delays are coming for both titles, it won’t mean anything for the PS5 launch during holiday 2020.

“Ghost of Tsushima doesn’t have a public release date yet, but it’ll also be bumped later into 2020 to account for this delay,” Schreier report on Twitter.

“Don’t expect them to suddenly turn it into a PS5 game or anything, but it was originally planned for the first half of the year – not anymore.”
