PS Plus January 2019: PS4 free games news coming soon

It doesn’t look like the PS Plus January 2020 free games list will be announced this week by Sony.

But it won’t be long before we find out what the tech giant has planned for next year with its popular PlayStation Plus subscription service.

As many gamers will already know, each month sees two PS4 games released by Sony as free downloads for a limited time.

They’re always games that have never been featured as part of the programme before, but with so many titles now available, it’s hard to predict what will be chosen.

Sony has gotten into the habit of offering a lot of AAA games over the past few months and fans will be hoping this continues during January 2020.

For now, gamers can download the likes of Titanfall 2 and Monster Energy Supercross as part of their PlayStation Plus subscription.

These will remain available as free downloadable content until January 7, 2020, at which time they will be replaced.

WHEN WILL THE NEW PS PLUS GAMES BE ANNOUNCED FOR JANUARY?

According to how Sony has been conducting its PlayStation Plus business during 2019, we would expect the announcement to come on the last Wednesday of the month.

And in December 2019, that will mean the news being shared on December 25, Christmas Day.

There’s a chance that Sony could change its plans due to the date and how it’s a holiday in many countries in Europe.

But that didn’t stop Sony sharing news on the last Wednesday of the month in 2018, which December 26.

However, the tech giant chooses to share the news, we can probably expect it to be revealed next week, which starts on December 22.

Last year saw Steep and Portal Knights headline the PS Plus lineup for January. Sony also chose to add on a special PSVR bonus as well.

At the time, the company was also offering free PS3 and PS Vita games, a practice that ended earlier in 2019.

So far, there have been no leaks or suggestions from Sony on what the PS Plus January 2020 games will be.

Fans will be hoping for a few AAA titles so that Sony can start the year strong, but nothing is guaranteed at this point.

Microsoft has just announced its own plans for Games with Gold next month, which follows a similar pattern.

On Xbox One, Xbox Live Gold members will be able to download Styx: Shards of Darkness for free during the month of January.

This game will become available to download on January 1 and will be followed by Batman: The Telltale Series – The Complete Season (Episodes 1-5) on January 16th to February 15th.

On Xbox 360, starting January 1st, TEKKEN 6 will be free for Xbox Live Gold members through January 15th.

Then on January 16th, Xbox Live Gold Members can download LEGO Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy for free through January 31st.
