Prue Leith was forced to add ‘more sex’ to her new book to make it better

Prue Leith was told she had to add ‘more sex’ to her novel to make it better.

The Great British Bake Off judge’s editor thought there was ‘too much food’ in her book The Lost Son and to fix it with a few racier parts.

Too much food? It’s Prue!

Speaking to The Sun, the 79-year-old revealed: ‘I keep thinking I’ve written the perfect book – then my editor says, “Actually, you should dig deeper. There’s too much business,” or, “There’s too much food in it,” because of course I get carried away.

‘And she says, “We need more sex, more love”. So I put in more sex and more love. Actually, I enormously enjoy writing about it.’

It looks like Prue’s found a new hobby.

She even got advice from Bake Off host Sandi Toksvig’s wife Debbie for advice on her novel and thanked her for having ‘approved my chapters on a lesbian love affair’.

She currently has eight fiction novels out (Picture: Channel 4)

‘Looking at the list you could be forgiven for thinking that I knew very little about anything,’ Prue wrote in the acknowledgements. ‘But at least the story is my own, and I know it’s the better for the help of my friends.’

The book centres on poverty-stricken newlyweds, Laura and Giovanni Angelotti, who are forced to put their first child up for adoption and Laura soon has to deal with the trauma while running her café-turned-restaurant empire.

We’d still read it without the sex.

Channel 4 star Prue recently admitted her role on the baking show is the ‘easiest job’ she’s ever had, as she joked all she has to do is turn up, ‘eat cake’ and give her thoughts before heading home and collecting a paycheque.

She’s not wrong.

‘I don’t say this too loudly so they want to drop my salary, but the fact is, it is the easiest job I’ve ever done,’ the star joked. ‘I don’t have to write a script, I don’t have to learn any lines, I don’t have to rehearse anything, I don’t have to make up jokes like [presenters] Sandi and Noel [Fielding] do

‘All I have to do is walk on, eat cake, say what I think, walk-off and get paid. What is wrong with that?’
