Prue Leith: 'It's taken me two years to recover' Bake Off 2019 judge on secret health woes

Prue Leith will return to screens tonight on The Great British Bake Off 2019, where she will reprise her judging role alongside Paul Hollywood. However, behind the scenes, the restaurateur has been dealing with a fall she suffered two years ago. The 79-year-old said it has taken her a long time to recover and now her “main worry” is it happening again. Speaking to the Daily Mirror, she opened up about her diet and health, as she said she had no plans to retire.

“I have porridge for breakfast or a yoghurt, salad for lunch and then whatever for supper with a couple of glasses of wine,” she said of her daily routine.

Prue continued: “And all my life I have wanted to lose a stone but I could never lose it! But I do exercise.

“I have a personal trainer who comes once or twice a week. If I have an excuse to cancel then I do because I don’t enjoy it.”

She went on to discuss what she feared most: “But I do it because I am 79 and my main worry is falling over.”

Prue went on: “A couple of years ago I fell at our train station and it’s taken me two years to recover.

“You don’t want to break a leg or hip at my age. I think if I can keep everything working, I will be OK.”

The mother-of-two plans to mark her milestone celebration with a visit to Scotland with her second husband, John Playfair.

She is using it as an opportunity to tick something off her bucket list by “going on a little puffer boat”.

Prue revealed how she had always wanted to do the activity, adding: “I also want to do more travelling as I love it so much.”

She has been married to the retired clothes designer since 2016, after meeting five years before.

The small screen favourite was previously wed to Rayne Kruger for 28 years until his death in 2002.

They have two children, filmmaker Li-Da, who was adopted from Cambodia, and Danny, who founded the Only Connect charity.

“I feel very lucky to have had two amazing marriages,” Prue added.

“… Most families have some tragedy but I have managed to escape them all.”

Meanwhile, it comes after the Government announced that Prue Leith will advise on a major review into hospital food.

The Great British Bake Off 2019 launches tonight at 8pm on Channel 4.
