Project xCloud streaming service adds all Xbox Game Pass games

Project xCloud – it hasn’t got a name or a release date yet, but that doesn’t matter

Project xCloud streaming service adds all Xbox Game Pass gamesMicrosoft has made life even harder for Google Stadia, as rival streaming service xCloud adds more games and support for more devices.

Just as the PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett are set to be bitter rivals in the next generation of consoles, so too is Microsoft’s Project xCloud and Google’s Stadia when it comes to streaming services.

Stadia has struggled with a series of embarrassing revelations lately, that suggest the launch next week is being rushed, but Microsoft has been a lot more laidback about xCloud (not its final name) which has been in beta for a while now and still has no confirmed launch date.

What it does have though, thanks to the recent X019 event, is confirmation that it will be coming to Windows 10 PCs in 2020 and other devices, implied to include iOS.

It’ll also support non-Microsoft Bluetooth controllers, including Sony’s DualShock 4, but most importantly it will run all Xbox Game Pass.

EA were also at X019 to pledge their support

That’s something that many have expected to happen for a while now, with Microsoft connecting the two services together so you can have over 100 (many more than that according to the latest announcement) Game Pass titles streaming to any Android device.

Microsoft has repeatedly said that it will take a long time before streaming works flawlessly and as a result has ruled out having a streaming-only console next generation.

Xbox boss Phil Spencer repeated that assertion at X019 and said it would be ‘multiple years’ before the concept was perfected, which is why there was still no official release date or pricing announcements.

What there’ll be instead is more places for people on the preview programme, if you want to sign up here, which will now extend beyond the US and UK to Canada, Eastern Europe, India, South Korea, and Japan.
