Princess Beatrice’s engagement ring was designed by one of Meghan Markle’s favourite jewellers Shaun Leane

Princess Beatrice and her long-term boyfriend, Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, have announced their engagement after being together for just over a year.

The happy couple reportedly became engaged while away in Italy earlier this month.

In the official photos that the couple have released upon their announcement, all eyes are on the bobby-dazzler-of-a-ring that the 34-year-old property tycoon gifted 31-year-old Beatrice.

Mozzi designed the ring in collaboration with British jewellery designer, Shaun Leane, who is also a favourite of Meghan Markle’s.

Meghan has been spotted wearing Leane’s designs on various occasions, most recently modelling his Tusk Bangle at the launch of her Smart Works collection.

She’s also been seen in his Talon earrings which she wore to the Invictus Games in October 2018 and his Trace Bracelet which she wore on the Royal Tour to Australia in October 2018.

50-year-old Londoner Leane, who’s a four-time winner of the UK Jewellery Designer of the year award, founded his eponymous jewellery brand in 1999, following his 17 years spent creating jewellery for Alexander McQueen

The ring was made in Leane’s Mayfair atelier and while further details haven’t been disclosed, bespoke engagement and wedding ring designer Michelle Oh, believes the ring to have cost £60,000 at least.

Commenting on the ring, Oh said: “It’s a round brilliant cut centre diamond that looks to be at least 2 carat in size. The side stones are tapered baguette cuts mixed maybe with some smaller round diamonds. The mount looks to be white so it’ll either be platinum or 18k white gold, but I would assume platinum!”

Beatrice, who is ninth in line to the throne, sported a dress by Australian-designer Zimmermann for the photo opportunity

In an official statement, Princess Beatrice and Mozzi said: “We are extremely happy to be able to share the news of our recent engagement. We are both so excited to be embarking on this life adventure together and can’t wait to be married. We share so many similar interests and values and we know this will stand us in great stead for the years ahead, full of love and happiness.”

Further details of the wedding will be announced in due course, the Duke and Duchess of York said.
