Prince Harry tells James Cordon he 'never walked away from Royal Family'

Prince Harry has opened up about his life in a recent interview with James Cordon.

During the chat with The Late Late Show presenter, Harry spoke about his decision to walk away from the Royal Family with wife Meghan Markle and son Archie saying he “needed to get his family out of there”.

Despite now residing in America, Harry said he’s never walked away from his duties, saying he simply “stepped back” from them.

The Prince sat down with the chat show star on an open top bus tour around LA where fans got to see a different side to him.

Opening up about his life in recent years, he said: “My life is always going to be about public service and Meghan signed up for that.

“The two of us enjoy doing that and trying to bring compassion and try to make people happy, and try to change the world in any small way we can.”

When James asked him why he decided to walk away, Harry is quick to corrects him.

He replies: “It was never walking away. It was stepping back rather than stepping down.

“It was a really difficult environment, as I think a lot of people saw. We all know what the British press can be like.

“It was destroying my mental health. I was like, this is toxic.

“So I did what any husband and any father would do, I need to get my family out of here. But we never walked away.

“As far as I’m concerned, whatever decisions are made on that side, I will never walk away.

“I will always be contributing. But my life is service, so wherever I am in the world it’s always going to be the same thing.”

In the interview, he also shared details of his new life in LA with Meghan and Archie, explaining that lockdown means he hasn’t been able to explore the area much.

He also reveals that Archie’s first word was crocodile, describing him as “hilarious”.

Asked what he thinks about The Crown, Harry replied: “They don’t pretend to be news, it’s fictional but it’s loosely based on the truth.

“Of course it’s not strictly accurate, but, loosely, it gives you a rough idea about what that lifestyle, what the pressures of putting duty and service above family and everything else, what can come from that.

“I am way more comfortable with The Crown than I am seeing the stories written about my family, or my wife or myself.”

He said The Crown is “obviously fiction” whereas he has a “real issue” with some of the stories written about him.

Harry joked that he would want Homeland star Damian Lewis to play him.

Harry and his wife Meghan are set to sit down with Oprah Winfrey in an interview said to be worth ‘millions of dollars’.

A royal source said that when the programme aired it would be “time to hide behind the sofa at the palace”.

It has also been claimed that Prince William was left furious and saddened by Harry and Meghan’s “insulting, disrespectful and petulant” parting shot at the Queen.

The Duke of Cambridge has been “shocked” at his brother’s behaviour towards the monarch after he and his wife were stripped of their remaining royal patronages.
