The Duke and Duchess of Sussex became parents for the first time back in May to their baby son Archie.
Discussing his chats with the new father, David told ET Online: “I think he’s enjoying being a young father for the first time and that’s what we always spoke about.
“When you are a parent, it changes everything for you. He always needs to be happy”.
The former footballer went on to say he and his wife are “proud” of how Prince Harry has adapted to fatherhood.

Speaking on the Jimmy Kemmel show, the sportsman said the pair met at a football match in Manchester.
On their second meeting, David plucked up the courage to go over and speak to his now wife and took her phone number.
He said: “We knew of [the Spice Girls], obviously, because they were pretty big at the time, and I was just establishing myself in the Manchester United team.”
David went on to say Victoria – who was known as Posh Spice in the Spice Girls – was “obviously” his favourite member of the band.
On meeting her at a match, he explained: “I didn’t get to talk to her that day, but then the week after, she came back up to Manchester to watch another game.”
“She’d had a couple of drinks, so I decided, ‘Why not?’ I’d try to get her number.
“We talked for about an hour in the player’s lounge. And she’d actually got the train up that day, so she wrote her number down on her train ticket, which I still have.”
As the crowd sighed, the presenter added: “And here you are 20 years later.”
“Twenty years later, and four kids later,” David chimed.
