Prince Harry and Meghan Markle 'quit social media' over torrent of online abuse

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have quit social media after receiving a torrent of abuse online, it has been reported.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have apparently decided to ditch Twitter and Facebook after being bombarded by ‘hate’ online.

Meghan has previously opened up about the ‘almost unsurvivable’ abuse she faced while on maternity leave with Archie.

The couple also have ‘no plans’ to use social media for their Archewell Foundation, according to The Mirror.

The bombshell comes after Donald Trump was banned from Twitter due to ‘the risk of further incitement of violence’ after his supporters stormed the US Capitol.

They have not posted on their Sussex Royal Instagram profile, which has more than 10 million followers, since March.

In their last post they hinted at taking a leave from social media by saying ‘while you may not see us here, the work continues’.

This also coincided with the Queen banning them from using ‘royal’ in their branding after Megxit.

Meghan previously spoke about being the ‘most trolled person in the world’ on a podcast to mark World Mental Health Day.

During the chat, the Suits actor said: “I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world, male or female. Now, eight months of that I wasn’t even visible, I was on maternity leave or with a baby.

“But what was able to just be manufactured and churned out, it’s almost unsurvivable, that’s so big, you can’t think of what that feels like, because I don’t care if you’re 15 or 25, if people are saying things about you that aren’t true, what that does to your mental and emotional health is so damaging.”

Harry previously said social media had helped create ‘a crisis of hate, a crisis of health and a crisis of truth’.
