Primal trailer: Nicolas Cage vs an assassin and wild animals on a boat

It has finally arrived: the most highly anticipated trailer of the year. Endgame? The Rise Of Skywalker? Pfft. Do they have Nicolas Cage trapped on a shipping freighter with loads of wild animals set free by a deadly assassin? No. No, they do not. But Primal does, Cage’s new film with Famke Janssen and Kevin Durand.

From Outcast director Nick Powell (that was the one where Cage played a mythical outlaw known as The White Ghost opposite Hayden Christensen, and featured a scene where Cage, complete with a cod English accent, hollered “Oi aym the woyt gawst!” while scratching his beard with a live snake) Primal now has its very first trailer.

Let’s watch it together…

And here’s the official synopsis…

“When Frank Walsh (Nicolas Cage), a hunter and collector of rare and exotic animals, bags a priceless white jaguar for a zoo, he figures it’ll be smooth sailing to a big payday. But the ship bearing Frank’s precious cargo has two predators caged in its hold: the cat, and a political assassin being extradited to the U.S. After the assassin breaks free – and then frees the jaguar – Frank feverishly stalks the ship’s cramped corridors in hot pursuit of his prey, right up until the thrilling, unpredictable climax.”

Is the ending absolutely, definitely going to be Durand’s assassin being mauled to death by that jaguar? Almost certainly, yes. Will that stop us cheering and immediately forgiving the aforementioned synopsis for promising an unpredictable climax? No.

Primal will be streaming digitally from 8th November in America. There’s no UK release date set, but apparently it comes out in the Netherlands in January. Ultimately, this may well turn out to be a movie we spot on Netflix UK at some point while scrolling dispondently one evening.
