Pretty Little Thing responds to claims Love Island star Molly-Mae ‘recycled’ designs for fashion line

Clothing brand Pretty Little Thing has cleared up claims that their collaboration with Love Island’s Molly-Mae Hague consists of “recycled pieces.”

The social media influencer, 20, finished in second place in this year’s show alongside boyfriend Tommy Fury, 20.

Her fashion collection launched online yesterday, with a social media post from the brand describing the initiative as “a carefully curated collection from our newest Brand Ambassador.”

But it faced a backlash online when Twitter users suggested that the collaboration featured items from existing Pretty Little Thing stock.

“This whole Molly Mae x PLT release is just recycled pieces,” one Twitter user claimed, while another wrote: “Honestly the Molly Mae X PLT collab is trash, they’ve recycled pieces from last year! I bought a few of those outfits earlier this year for cheaper too!”

A third social media user shared a screenshot of a skirt allegedly ordered from the brand last year, writing: “I literally ordered this PLT skirt on 22/11/2018. And it’s now in the collection apparently designed by Molly Mae with the exact same item name?”

“Wait why is it called the Molly Mae collection when half of the clothes were already on plt months ago?” another tweet read.

Another shopper claimed: “All the products are from last year? She just chose outfits from exsisting [sic] stock and they labelled it as Molly Maes [sic] collection.”

The brand have since released a statement to MailOnline, telling fans that the star was “fully involved in the design process” while admitting that “eight of the items” were “previous best selling lines.”

“Molly has been fully involved in the design process of this collection and has worked extremely hard with our team of in house designers in bringing her collection to life,” they said.

“She came to us with a mood board of ideas and we sketched some new styles which are in the collection as well as introducing new colours on a very small amount of already existing lines.

“Molly will be relaunching her YouTube channel this week where she will be taking her viewers through the collection process and discussing her collaboration with PrettyLittleThing.

“Eight of the items in Molly’s collection were previous best selling lines from PLT.”

Standard Online has contacted Hague’s representatives for further comment.

The reality star launched her collaboration at a party on Sunday night, which was attended by her fellow Love Island contestants including winner Amber Gill, runner-up Maura Higgins, Amy Hart and Anna Vakili.
