Pret to scrap 14 items in biggest-ever menu change in 33 year history

PRET A Manger has announced its biggest menu shakeup in its 33 year history, and it may upset loyal customers.

The sandwich shop is permanently axing 14 items from its menu, but it’s also adding 20 brand new ones.

The scrapped menu items include everything from toasties and baguettes to brownies and cheesecakes. Find a full list below.

The new menu, which rolls out across the UK on Tuesday (April 9), is catering for the fussier foodies with eight of the new items being vegan and five of them vegetarian.

It includes avocado-based salads pots setting you back between £2.99 and £3.25 as well as four new salad boxes, costing between £4.50 and £6.50.

The salad pots include a poke-inspired smoked salmon with edamame beans, diced mango, pickled cabbage and carrot on smashed avocado as well as one with chicken, smashed beetroots and a hard-boiled egg.

If you’re vegan, you might like the avocado-based pot with roasted mushrooms.

Pret is also launching a new range of open sandwiches on its first gluten-free bread.

Made from oat, teff, buckwheat and quinoa flours, with millet, red quinoa and sourdough, the multi-grain bread comes after nine months of development and 30 different recipes, the chain said.

Sadly, the open sandwiches are only available in a selected number of Pret shops so double-check with your nearest one before you make the trip.

They’ll set you back £3.25 for its vegan and vegetarian options, or you’ll have to fork out £3.75 for its chicken and avocado version.

Pret’s head of food development, Hannah Dolan, said: “We’re so excited to launch our colourful new spring menu, our biggest change in our history, which is a result of listening to what our customers want.

“Our team of chefs have taken inspiration from all over the world for this new menu and have worked incredibly hard to perfect each and every ingredient.

“Two-thirds of Pret products are now purchased outside of the lunchtime period, and we think these filling snacks and smaller meals will fit really well with our customers’ busy schedules.”

Pret A Manger opened in London in 1986.

The sandwich chain has started to list all ingredients on the product labels after a girl, 15, died from an allergic reaction to a sandwich.

Last year, Pret was also banned from advertising its food as “natural” as “bread contains too many additives”.

It gives away millions of coffees for free each year – here’s how you can get one too.
