Premiership Rugby Cup final: Sale Sharks v Harlequins postponed

Sale are second in the Premiership table and have home advantage over Harlequins for the Premiership Rugby Cup final – although a new date for the match is yet to be announced

Sunday’s Premiership Rugby Cup final between Sale and Harlequins at AJ Bell Stadium has been postponed.

The game was called off on Friday evening after an individual staff member from one of the clubs showed symptoms consistent with the coronavirus and went into isolation.

“We’re incredibly sorry to all the people who will be disappointed,” a Premiership Rugby statement said.

“However the welfare of fans, players and staff remains our first concern.”

No new date has been set for the match.

There has been a widespread cancellation of sporting events across the UK because of the coronavirus pandemic, with all elite football in England postponed until 3 April on Friday.

Elsewhere in rugby union, Saturday’s Six Nations game between Wales and Scotland has been called off, joining two already postponed fixtures – Italy v England and France v Ireland.

All of Sunday’s Women’s Six Nations fixtures have been cancelled, while the Pro14 competition and all French rugby union have been halted.
