Premier League’s inaugural Hall of Fame ceremony cancelled due to coronavirus

The Premier League’s inaugural Hall of Fame ceremony has been cancelled as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

The ceremony was scheduled to take place in London on Thursday, with two unnamed players set to be inducted.

A shortlist of nominees for inclusion in the future was also due to be announced, with fans voting on the inductees.

Professional football in Britain has been suspended until 3 April at the earliest in an attempt to combat the spread of coronavirus.

Uefa will meet on Tuesday to discuss plans for the Champions League, which has also been suspended, and this summer’s Euro 2020, before Premier League clubs convene on Thursday to decide their own plans.

The Premier League Hall of Fame was announced in February.

The criteria for potential inductees is that the players must be retired and only their Premier League career will be considered.
