Liverpool battle with Barca for De Ligt

After hammering Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals Liverpool hope to beat the Catalans again by signing Ajax captain Matthijs de Ligt.

The defender remains a top target for Barca but ESPN reports that the Spaniards still have a lot of work to do before any deal is complete.

The 19-year-old has also been linked with Bayern Munich, Juventus and Manchester United, but The Guardian says Liverpool want De Ligt to partner his Dutch team-mate Virgil van Dijk in the Anfield defence.

De Ligt leads Ajax on Wednesday night against Tottenham in the Champions League semi-final second leg. Should Ajax progress they would play Liverpool in the final on 1 June in Madrid.

Sancho move off?

Manchester United’s hopes of signing Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund is “in tatters” after their failure to qualify for next season’s Champions League. England winger Sancho is one of United’s top summer targets but a £100m move now looks unlikely. Dortmund are determined to keep 19-year-old Sancho, who is under contract until 2022 with the Bundesliga giants. Maguire move back on?

While a deal for Jadon Sancho could now be off Manchester United are ready to make another move for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire. The England international, who is valued at £80m, has long been linked with a switch to Old Trafford. (ESPN)

City eye Felix

Manchester City plan to swoop for two Portuguese stars. They are close to signing Sporting Lisbon’s Bruno Fernandes and once that deal is complete they want to move for Benfica’s 19-year-old attacking midfielder Joao Felix. (Sky Sports News)

Bayern monitor Hudson-Odoi injury

Callum Hudson-Odoi’s surgery on his ruptured Achilles has gone better than expected. The 18-year-old could return in just four to five months and German giants Bayern Munich are continuing to monitor his progress. (The Sun)

Klopp still has his eye on Asensio

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp will try again this summer to sign Marco Asensio from Real Madrid. The Spanish club could sell the 23-year-old in order to bring in Eden Hazard from Chelsea and Paul Pogba from Manchester United. (Mundo Deportivo)

City hope Kompany will stay

After scoring a wonder goal against Leicester this week Manchester City hope that captain Vincent Kompany will sign a one-year contract extension. The 33-year-old’s current deal expires on 30 June. (The Times)

Dutch side PSV could be looking to cash in on wingers Steven Bergwijn and Hirving Lozano this summer. Mexico international Lozano, 23, has been previously linked with Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United. (BBC via De Telegraaf)
