Premier League set for June return as UK government green light behind closed doors games

TV companies have held talks to extend the number of games screened during June, but Sky and BT Sport only have the rights to show a certain number of the remaining 92 fixtures.

As such, some games could be shown on terrestrial TV to allow far more matches to be shown to keep supporters at home.

The Mirror add that the talks have been extensive but that the final details will not be resolved until the situation continues to improve, with it hoped it will do so this month and next.

However, if it does not and the situation actually worsens over the next six weeks, a return would need to be delayed further.

The 20 clubs were told at Friday’s meeting to prepare for a June return with it thought players could begin to team training in May, though they would remain isolated from the wider public.

Currently, there have been nearly 50,000 confirmed cases of the virus in the UK but there are believed to be many more due to the lack of testing.
