Premier League fixtures: When your is team playing during the winter break

Premier League clubs are experiencing their first ever winter break for the first time.

Each side is being given a weekend off this month with half the league playing this weekend while the other 10 sides waiting until February 15/16 for their next Premier League fixtures.

Some managers have taken the break very seriously with Liverpool ’s Jurgen Klopp giving his whole first team (and himself) permission to miss his side’s FA Cup fourth round replay against Shrewsbury.

While winter breaks have been common in the German Bundesliga, La Liga in Spain and Italy’s Serie A for years, this staggered approach is a first for the Premier League.

How does the Premier League winter break work?

For this weekend and next there will only be half the number of fixtures compared to usual, giving all teams a fortnight off between matches.

The split is not quite 50/50 with eight teams playing this weekend and the other 12 playing their next matches over the weekend of February 15/16.

The reduced number of matches – only four this weekend – means there will be no 3pm kick offs on Saturday.

However every match – both this weekend and next – will be live on either Sky Sports or BT Sport.

Who is playing this weekend?

Liverpool, Manchester United , Arsenal , Chelsea and Tottenham all have this weekend off.

However two of the top six will feature as Manchester City and Sheffield United both play on Sunday.

Saturday sees Everton host Crystal Palace and Watford make the trip to Brighton while on Sunday Sheffield United play Bournemouth and Manchester City take on West Ham .

Who is playing next weekend?

Next weekend sees six Premier League fixtures spread over four days from February 14 to February 17.

The second half of the winter break fixtures begins with Leicester making the trip to Wolverhampton on Friday night with Southampton v Burnley and Norwich v Liverpool the two Saturday games.

Aston Villa v Tottenham and Arsenal’s match at home to Newcastle follow on the Sunday before Manchester United’s visit to Chelsea finishing off the winter break fixtures on Monday February 17.
