Storm Dennis is set to sweep across Great Britain this weekend and plenty of travelling fans could be affected by the adverse weather after four amber warnings were issued by the Met Office.
The storm could not have come at a worse time as most of this weekend’s fixtures require cross-country travel for visiting supporters.
Burnley face the 524-mile round trip for the Saturday lunchtime kick-off at Southampton, which would take five hours to drive or six hours and 40 minutes on various trains – and that is without any disruption.
Later in the day Liverpool must make the 510-mile round trip east to Norwich which will take around four hours and 45 minutes by road or six hours by train.
On Sunday Tottenham make head up the M1 to Aston Villa and Newcastle make the 546-mile round trip to Arsenal, with Manchester United fans then having to travel to Chelsea on Monday night.
However, both Saturday and Sunday could see severe travel disruption, as was the case when Storm Ciara hit last week.
Met Office meteorologists Alex Deacon and Aidan McGivern warned that a similar effect could be felt for travellers this weekend.
Mr McGivern said: “Even though the winds, at this stage, are forecast to be a little bit lower than Ciara.
“So there’s still a potential for disruption.”
Manchester City’s home clash with West Ham was postponed because of ‘adverse weather conditions’ last weekend.
“Over the higher ground of Wales and southwest England, 120 to 140 mm of rain is possible in a few locations. This rain is expected to fall across areas already wet from recent rainfall.”
There are currently 13 flood warnings and 104 flood alerts in place across Britain.
The Environment Agency has urged people to check for further warnings throughout the weekend
