Power Book III – Raising Kanan: Who will play Kanan’s cousin Jukebox? Meet The Village act

After the original series Power on Starz and Netflix came to a dramatic end, the makers of the show announced they would be creating four spin-off series centred on some of the show’s most controversial and gripping characters. The first one will be Power Book II: Ghost which will follow Tasha and Tariq just 48 hours after the events of the finale.

While Book III will be about Kanan Stark (played by Curtis Jackson).

While the majority of the new seasons will be about what happened next, Power Book III: Raising Kanan is taking a step back into the past.

Raising Kanan will be a prequel to Power, set in the 90s and will be primarily about thug and drug dealer Kanan growing up and his relationship with his mother Raq who will be played by actress Patina Miller.

His mother didn’t want Kanan to end up on the streets getting into trouble so fans are bound to see the pair clashing throughout the show.

Kanan was sent to prison for 10 years after Ghost and Tasha set him up so the former could take over the drug trade in New York.

However, he is released early on in the series and not only killed his own son Shawn (Sinqua Walls) but his cousin LaVerne Ganner, also known as Jukebox, who will be appearing in Raising Kanan.

However, this next instalment isn’t expected to be on our screens until either at the end of this year or early 2021.

So who is the latest actress to be joining the cast of the upcoming spin-off series?

In the original series, Jukebox was played by actress Anika Noni Rose who has starred in a plethora of shows and films including The Quad, Vixen, Bates Motel, The Good Wife and was also the voice of Tiana in The Princess and The Frog.

As well as Kanan’s cousin, Jukebox was a corrupt police officer who did plenty of dodgy dealings during her time on the show.

But in season four, her time in Power came to a shocking end when she threatened to kill Tariq in a standoff.

Kanan wanted to protect the teenager and so shoots her in order to keep him safe, despite Jukebox being his cousin.

Kanan’s story didn’t come to a happy end either though as Angela (Lela Loren) and Tasha wanted to get rid of him for good so planted Ray Ray’s (Marcus Callender) murder weapon him.

Tariq was also in on the plan so he wouldn’t get in trouble for murdering the undercover police officer.

Kanan was surrounded by police officers but the drug dealer managed to shoot all the officers but as he was also shot once in the chest, when he tried to get away in a car, he was weakened by his wound and drove into a pole and was killed in the incident.

Power seasons 1 to 6 are available to watch on Netflix.
