Porto reportedly want a deal wrapped up for the sale of Manchester United target Alex Telles this week as talks over a fee stall.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in the market for a left-back as he aims to improve his options in defence.

United are said to have had an initial offer of £12million rejected, as the Portuguese club hold out for £18m.

Telles’ contract is due to expire next summer, meaning he would be allowed to freely negotiate with clubs in January.

According to Duncan Castles of Record Sport, Porto president Jorge Nuno Pinto da Costa has set a deadline of this week to complete a deal involving the left-back, to ensure they have time to find a replacement.

The report states that United believe Porto’s price for the defender is excessive, given the current financial climate caused by the coronavirus crisis.

Porto are said to be under less financial pressure than they were at the beginning of the window due to the £35m sale of Fabio Silva to Wolves.

Former Manchester United full-back Rafael is an admirer of Telles and urged Red Devils fans not to overreact regarding transfers.

‘We need a left-back now,’ Rafael told The Athletic last week. ‘Let’s get a good one. Alex Telles is a very good player and I know him.

‘But these days, Twitter. People are there, like a computer, saying, “Delete the club” or “S**t coach, s**t player”. Sometimes you cannot go to Twitter to see if a player is good or not.

‘There are too many negative things. We do need to relax and trust people, just that little bit more.’
