Polling guru Sir John Curtice predicts 'zero' chance of Labour majority in the election

The election expert claimed “with a ten-point lead, the Tories ought to win an overall majority”, however he warned that it was not an official prediction of his. Sir John, a professor of politics at Strathclyde University, is one of the most respected election experts in the country, having accurately predicted the last two shock election results.

At an event in London yesterday, he said: “The chances of Labour winning a majority are as close to zero as it is possible to be”.

Sir John told reporters at another event: “Because the Brexit Party are standing down in Conservative-held seats, it could simply be a case of the Tories piling up more votes in the seats they are going to win anyway.

“Therefore the lead the Tories may need in the polls in order to get an overall majority could be greater than the six or seven points that we currently anticipate.

According to YouGov, the Labour Party could face their worst election results in a century in some parts.

The pollsters said in a tweet: “Both main parties down everywhere, but Labour have been hit particularly hard and are on course for their worst performance in more than 100 years in Scotland and Wales.”

The party could lose more than 20 percent of their hold from the 2017 results, the latest polls show.

The latest election poll conducted by Express.co.uk has revealed that the Tories will benefit hugely from Nigel Farage’s decision to stand down Brexit Party candidates in 317 seats.

The poll of 15,288 voters revealed 10,917 people or 72 percent would vote for the Conservative Party if the Brexit Party was not an option.
