Poldark season 5 spoilers: Aidan Turner drops major hint about Ross and Demelza ending

Ross and Demelza (played by Eleanor Tomlinson) have had one of the rockiest relationships in television drama, but it’s also one of the most heart-wrenching.

Meeting in unconventional circumstances, the couple fought against the odds despite the fact they were stacked against them.

Ross struggled to move on from his first love Elizabeth (Heida Reed), and Demelza’s eye also wandered during season three.

When Hugh Armitage (Josh Whitehouse) arrived on the scene he made a beeline for the beautiful red-head, and it truly seemed the fan-favourite couple were over for good.

Luckily Ross and Demelza managed to come back to each other in season four, even with the father-of-two’s building career as a Member of Parliament.

Two episodes in to season five of the hit drama, the married pair are presented as being stronger than ever.

And while fans undoubtedly know there will be drama ahead before the series wraps, star Aidan Turner revealed his final scene was with his co-star Eleanor.

Has he given away the couple’s “happy ending”?

Speaking to Express.co.uk and other media, Aidan shared: “My favourite part of Ross’s evolution is he’s getting older, more responsible, wiser.

“He’s a better listener, treats people with more respect I suppose, I don’t know, I’ve just been along for the journey.

“It’s hard to see it when you’re in the driver’s seat that evolution I suppose.”

“[But Ross and Demelza have] overcome a lot of things haven’t they,” The Being Human actor continued. “I think they’re in a good place by the end of the series yeah…. Or he dies [laughs].”

“It actually was pretty poignant our last day,” Aidan went on. “It was just myself and Eleanor in doing some of the bedroom scenes.

“It was quite intimate and quite lovely and seemed to make sense that it was just the two of us I suppose, yeah it was poignant”.

The star added his relationship with his co-star behind the scenes has always been “brilliant” and “amazing” because of how much they both care about their characters.

“We’ve invested a lot in the show and the characters, we care deeply about it.

“We get along great, but you know the work always comes first and it’s always been that way, yeah I don’t know, you click with someone on set, [we] always have,” Aidan added.

The drama in this series has already kicked off and there are some mysteries afoot as new characters begin to show their hands in the middle of the Cornish drama.

Some fans are more concerned with the mental state of reformed villain George Warleggan (Jack Farthing) though, as he continues to see hallucinations of his dead wife Elizabeth (Heida Reed).

Poldark season five continues tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
