Pokemon Sword and Shield Pokedex surprise and big Nintendo Switch release news

Pokemon Sword and Shield releases on November 15, 2019, and will be a massive exclusive launch for the Nintendo Switch.

New additions have been made to the game, some of which will affect how gamers play during the first few weeks of the Pokemon release.

And with just days to go, fans are also learning about other surprising news connected to the game’s Pokedex.

Fans found out earlier in 2019 that Game Freak would be offering a reduced Pokedex for the launch of Pokemon Sword and Shield.

The change has proven controversial with fans and isn’t an idea that many want to see made permanent.

The limited Pokedex size has seen some players come out in support of Game Freak, while others want to see changes made.

And now in a new interview, it appears that there could be more fierce debates among Pokemon fans in the future.

According to Game Freak producer Junichi Masuda, there are no current plans to bring back the expanded Pokedex.

And this won’t just be a thing for Pokemon Sword and Shield on Nintendo Switch, but a change that could affect future games as well.

Moving forward, fans may not see the return of the Pokedex support fans have grown used too.

In a new interview with Inside Gamer, and via VG247, Game Freak Masuda revealed: “We now have no plans to make the Pokémon that are missing in the Galar Pokédex in-game available.

“That is an approach that we want to continue in the future with Pokémon games.”

This makes it sound like the National Pokedex fans use to trade will not be the same for Sword and Shield fans.

However, these changes might not be the same for future games, with Masuda also revealing that the Pokemon Home App could open new possibilities.

“Up until now it hasn’t been possible to encounter every Pokemon in every game, so people had to transfer them from old games to the new game, by using Pokemon Bank for example,” Masuda adds.

“The Pokemon Home app is currently in development, in which players can collect their various Pokemon, and only Pokemon in the Galar Pokedex can be transferred from there to Sword and Shield.

“But the way of playing is actually not very different from before with Pokemon Bank: up until now you have always only been able to meet Pokemon from a certain region.”

“We encourage people to use Pokemon Home to collect their Pokemon from old games.

“From there they might be able to take them to other games in the future. So take good care of your old Pokemon, because perhaps you can travel with them again in the future.”

It follows news that when Pokemon Sword and Shield launches on November 15, Nintendo Switch gamers will be more likely to encounter Gigantamax Butterfree in Max Raid Battles.

Max Raid Battles will feature four Trainers teaming up to take on a wild Dynamax Pokémon. But in sporadic cases, a Gigantamax Pokémon can appear instead of a Dynamax Pokémon.

Typically, your chances of encountering a Gigantamax Pokémon are very, very small. But Game Freak will be running a timed period in which some encounter will have higher chances of happening, starting with Butterfree.
