Pokémon Sword and Shield 24-hour livesteam will showcase new Glimwood Tangle area

Well this is new for The Pokémon Company

The Pokémon Company has announced a 24-hour livestream of Pokémon Sword and Shield, showing off a new area but not using in-game footage.

This is a first for the Pokémon Company, as we usually only get a Direct or something similar. The stream will show off a new location in the Galar region, called the Glimwood Tangle in English (Luminous Maze in Japanese) but it’s not in-game footage they’re using.

The stream is being promoted as a ‘Pokémon Live Camera’ to allow you to watch and observe what pokémon will appear in this forest. The broadcast starts at midnight in Japan, so 2 pm BST on 4 October, and finishes at 2 pm on 5 October.

The original broadcast is being aired on YouTube in Japanese, but an English steam is being shown over on Twitch.

What’s interesting is that The Pokémon Company wants you to tweet at them every time you see a different pokémon on the stream, using the hashtag #PokemonLiveCamera

The stream will be overseen a new character called Sonia, who’s sent out this pretend message:

‘My name’s Sonia, and I’m a Pokémon researcher. Here in Galar, I’m always helping out with research for my gran – Professor Magnolia, that is!

I’m sending this message because I could really use your help with some research I’m doing.

Next week, a camera will be set up in a strange forest here in Galar known as Glimwood Tangle, and the camera will begin broadcasting live footage.

The broadcast will last for 24 hours! If you could take a gander when you have time, that’d be just great. Thanks in advance!’

What is curious is there is over 1,000 pokémon in the entire series, so how many of them will we see in this forest? Will we only see the pokémon that are going to be in that specific location in the game? Or are they going to treat us to some pokémon that we’ve never seen before? Will we even see Sirfetch’d?

The Pokémon Company seem to be pulling out all the stops for the launch of Pokémon Sword and Shield this November, in a way we’ve not really seen for previous games.
