Pokémon GO search bar quick reference guide

One of the best recent quality-of-life updates to Pokémon Go has been the new strings you can enter into the search bar when viewing the list of Pokémon in your bag.

It’s easy to forget that the search bar itself didn’t exist when the game was originally released, but merely searching by name was just the start.

And now, thanks to the the new appraisal system, you can search for Pokémon according to their IV rating, from 0* all the way up to 4*, which means perfect IVs.

So here’s what you need to type to find everything you’ll ever need.

Search by IV, HP & CP

Pokémon have individual values (IVs) for Attack, Defence and HP (Hit Points). Each value ranges from 0-15, and these are then combined into an overall percentage, which explains the gaps between the levels below.

Search string Result
0* Everything with IV from 0-48.9%
1* Everything with IV from 51.1-64.4%
2* Everything with IV from 66.7-80%
3* Everything with IV from 82.2-97.8%
4* 100%
0*,1*,2* Everything with IV from 0-80%
cp1000-1499 All Pokémon with CP between 1000 and 1499
cp-1500 All Pokémon with CP under 1500
hp100-200 All Pokémon with HP between 100 and 200

This system makes it very fast to find low IV Pokémon to transfer them and free up bag space. A comma is equivalent to “or”, which means you can combine searches, as in the last example.

An & means “and” which is subtly different to “or” in some searches. There is also a “not” operator, so you can use !4* to find all Pokémon which are not 100%.

You can combine search terms. Here are some examples:

Search string Result
evolve&3*,4* Pokémon 82.2-100% for which you have enough candy to evolve
!evolve Pokémon which either do not evolve or you don’t have enough candy to evolve
evolve&pikachu Displays only Pikachu which can be evolved
