Pokémon Go: event guide for April and Easter 2022

Pokémon Go continues to add even more critters to the mix with the rest of April’s events ready to introduce a new batch.

Launched in 2016, Pokémon Go may not make the headlines it once did but it’s actually more popular than ever, especially during special events like the ones coming up this Easter weekend.

Developer Niantic are now encouraging players to get out and play more, after making the game easier to play indoors during the pandemic, and if it’s nice weather this weekend you be sure plenty of people will be taking advantage of it to play the game.

There is an almost bewildering number of things going on during the Easter weekend and beyond though, so here’s a guide to everything you can do and everyone you can catch.

Spring into Spring Pokémon Go event guide

Between April 12-18 you’ll be able to find certain Pokémon with flower crowns. While not mentioning Easter outright, Niantic haven’t missed a trick by featuring Togepi’s evolutions, Togetic and Togekiss – all egg themed pokémon – while the third is Lopunny, a rabbit themed pokémon.

During the event there’s also a Limited Research Day (Saturday, April 16 between 11am-2pm), which will focus on Exeggcute. The bundle of eggs will appear when you find photograph discs and spin them at PokeStops.

Throughout the Limited Research Day you’ll be able to evolve Exeggcute into an Alolan Exeggutor that has access to the move Draco Meteor, with 150 power when fighting against other players in trainer battles, gym battles or against pokémon at the centre of a raid event.

You’ll also be able to get flower crown wearing Eevee, Pikachu, Buneary, and Chansey.

The following methods can force an encounter if you’re after one of the four flower crown versions:

  • Hatch an egg – Pikachu or Eevee
  • Hatch two eggs – Buneary encounter
  • Hatch four eggs – Chansey encounter

Alongside all of this, Tapu Bulu, a legendary pokémon from the Sun and Moon games on 3DS will join the roster too. This pokémon will also be part of the five-star raids.

Spring into Spring bonuses

During the Spring into Spring event, you’ll find that there’s a few bonuses to take advantage of. These include:

  • 2x hatch candy
  • 1/2 distance needed to hatch eggs
  • 2x lucky egg duration, earning you more XP
  • Team Go Rocket will now have Shadow Whismur and Shadow Exeggcute

To catch the two Shadow pokémon, you’ll need to beat the members of Team Go Rocket and be met with a chance for one of their infected pokémon.

  • Flower crown Buneary
  • Flower crown Chansey
  • Flower crown Eevee
  • Flower crown Pikachu

You can force an encounter with Togetic wearing a flower crown by catching each of the pokémon above, however Togetics are available in the wild too.

How to get Alolan Exeggutor in Spring into Spring’s Limited Research Day

You’ll notice that there’s really not a lot of time dedicated to the Limited Research Day, so you’ll need to act quickly to get this specific Alolan Exeggutor. However if you’ve already stocked up on our eggy friends during the event any Exeggcute you have will be eligible to evolve.

Exeggcute will evolve into Alolan Exeggutor during these conditions with 50 candies. To get these just catch as many Exeggcute as you can and then once you’ve got more than you need, transfer them back to the professor to earn even more.

There’s also a chance for a shiny variation of Alolan Exeggutor, but you’ll need to find a shiny Exeggcute. These versions are yellow instead of pink.

All pokémon available in the Limited Research Day

The following pokémon can be found during the three hours of the Limited Research day:

  • Bellsprout
  • Bulbasaur
  • Chikorita
