Pointless: 'Can't take it' Viewers OUTRAGED as Richard Osman refuses to accept answer

Richard, 48, was joined by his Pointless co-host Alexander Armstrong, 49, to welcome new pairings to this afternoon’s edition of the BBC quiz show.

After Alexander gave all the introductions, the contestants were asked to give a pointless answer to words beginning with the prefix ‘Para,’ relating to a number of statements posed on the board.

First up to give an answer was contestant James, who was joined by his sister Emma, and he gave the answer of Paramarimbo as the capital of and chief port of Suriname, South America.

However, Richard said he couldn’t accept the answer when the meter on the board didn’t fall at all, as the contestant had added an extra ‘m’ to the word Paramaribo.

Viewers took to Twitter as they were disappointed Richard and Alexander had denied James the answer, after there was a similar mix-up on yesterday’s show.

After a series of rounds yesterday, one contestant was given the go ahead after giving their answer of David Borneaz instead of David Boreanaz for the actor who played the angel in the American horror series, Buffy the Vampire.

One viewer posted after yesterday’s show: “They have thrown out previous answers for an extra E or S, so, they should be consistent. #pointless.”

Another added: “C’mon #pointless you can’t give that. Borneaz is a completely different surname to the correct surname, Boreanaz.”

Following this afternoon’s episode and James being denied his answer, one viewer wrote: “Can’t accept an extra M in Paramaribo, but accepted a totally wrong answer yesterday! #pointless.”

A second remarked: “Adding an extra “m” isn’t accepted but leaving out a whole syllable in someone’s name yesterday was fine #pointless @TVsPointless.”

Richard said after the reveal: “Sorry James. I can’t take it. I’ll give the correct answers at the end of the pass.”

It looked like James’ luck was changing when he and Emma managed to make it to the jackpot round after knocking out their competitors, Patricia and Sylvia.

However, it didn’t last for long as the siblings failed to get their hands on the cash prize, having been unable to get pointless answer.

This means whichever couple reaches the jackpot round on tomorrow’s show will be competing to win a prize fund of £4,500.

Amongst the controversy of the Buffy question on yesterday’s show, viewers were also left turmoil as one contestant made an error regarding a James Bond question.

Back in 2017, Alexander spoke candidly about how viewers of the show could make themselves on of the 100 people asked the questions posed to contestant on the show.
