Pogba will miss AZ Alkmaar clash as Solskjaer promises ‘he’ll play a load of games’ during Man Utd Christmas run

PAUL POGBA is still not fit enough to play for Manchester United two weeks after returning to training at Carrington.

The player will now miss his 15th straight game after ten weeks on the sidelines when the Red Devils take on AZ Alkmaar in the Europa League.

It was thought the clash would provide a perfect opportunity for him to make his return from an ankle injury.

But United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said ahead of the game that it was still too early for him to play.

This is despite Pogba posting videos on social media of him training in Dubai and Miami – even playing basketball.

Solskjaer said: “It’s too early yet. He’s working hard to get fit so hopefully we can get him back on the pitch.”

It has been the same message for a number of weeks now.

The question is, even when he is ready to come back, whether he will get in the team given the form of players like Scott McTominay and Fred.

Solskjaer said: “Let’s get Paul fit first and back in form and he’ll play loads of games.

“For me he’s one of the best players in the world and looking forward to having him back.”

Fans remain ambivalent, however, as he has not been missed.

Indeed in the past week with wins over Spurs and Manchester City, United have produced their best form under Solskjaer without him.

Those two wins have lifted the mood considerably at United.

Solskjaer said: “Results are the proof in the end but inside we’ve always believed in what we’re doing.

“It’s ups and downs but we are on the right track.

“I see these boys every single day in training with the attitude and skills and quality they’ve got, I’m not worried.”
