Plant-based food firm signs deal with children's soft play chain

Plant-based food start-up Daring Foods has signed a deal to supply a chain of children’s soft play venues.

The meat-free snacks will be on sale at Wonder World Soft Play in Edinburgh, Falkirk, Glasgow and Kirkcaldy.

Daring founder Ross Mackay was a regular at Wonder World in Glasgow centre with his nephew and found plant-based options at the café were limited.

His company’s range including Cluck-Free nuggets and Moo-less burgers is already available in more than 35 restaurants in Scotland and will soon be on sale at education establishments including Dundee and Angus College.

Mackay said: “Adopting a plant-based diet is the best thing a young person can do to mitigate the pressures of global food production. Our products use just a fraction of the water and land in production compared to animal meat.

“We are very excited that families across Scotland will be able to enjoy our range before, during and after play. Feedback from parents has always that meatless eating can be challenging – we provide a way to make it easier.”

Aidhan Higgins, executive chef at Wonder World Group said : “The diet of our customers, and society in general, is changing. More and more people are going meatless and exploring alternative options. We need to react to these changing times.

“Daring’s range is a huge improvement on the plant-based options that were available to us previously. It’s certainly far better than tofu!

“When I started my career as a chef, it was pretty much salad or nothing else. Now people can enjoy plant-based products which are just as delicious, if not more, than meat.”
