  • SmileDirectClub, which makes teeth-aligning and whitening products, is the latest sponsor of the Pittsburgh Knights.
  • This marks the first esports sponsorship for SmileDirectClub, which will be the “smile confidence partner” of the team.
  • Knights players and streamers will use SmileDirectClub products, the company will sponsor a weekly video series, and the partners have multiple activations planned.

The Pittsburgh Knights Database-Link-e1521645463907 esports organization has partnered with SmileDirectClub, marking the first esports sponsorship for the company.

SmileDirectClub makes invisible aligners that patients wear to adjust their teeth, and the process is done remotely without visits to the orthodontist. The Nashville-based company also sells a teeth-whitening product, and will be the Pittsburgh Knights’ official “smile confidence partner.”

In a release, the companies suggest that the partnership is a good fit because esports players’ mouths aren’t hidden behind helmets or faceguards, and they’re often seen up close in streams and on social media. Knights players and streamers will use SmileDirectClub products and post updates via social media.

“SmileDirectClub is excited to join the esports space as the Pittsburgh Knights’ newest partner,” said SmileDirectClub co-founder Alex Fenkell, in a release. “We are honored to have the opportunity to show both the players and their fans what the power of a new, confident smile can do.”

SmileDirectClub will also sponsor a new Knights weekly video series, as well as offer product giveaways to fans. Knights players will appear at the company’s Atlanta SmileShop this summer, allowing fans to compete against the pros. Lastly, the company will be a featured exhibitor at the ReplayFX retro gaming and pinball event in August, which the Knights are co-producing. SmileDirectClub will hold esports competitions and activate at the event.

The Knights recently added convenience store Sheetz and gaming hardware brand HyperX as sponsors, and received an investment from the NFL’s Pittsburgh Steelers in December.
