Pitbull pulls out of Steven Tyler's Grammy viewing party over Kobe Bryant's death

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler held his third annual Grammy viewing party on Sunday night, but the night’s headlining act, Pitbull, pulled out at the last minute.

The 39-year-old singer (real name Armando Christian Perez) was scheduled to headline the party, held at Raleigh Studios in Los Angeles, but TMZ reports Pitbull pulled out because he was too broken up over Kobe Bryant’s death.

Tyler was able to bring in singer Gavin DeGraw at the last minute, to fill in for Pitbull, and the event went off without a hitch.

Pitbull has yet to say anything publicly about the tragic death of NBA legend Kobe Bryant on any of his social media platforms.

The 41 year old Los Angeles Lakers star was killed in the crash, along with his 13 year old daughter, plus six other passengers (John Altobelli, Keri Altobelli, Alyssa Altobelli, Sarah Chester, Payton Chester, Christina Mauser) and pilot Ara Zobayan.

They were all heading to Kobe’s Mamba Sports Academy in Thousand Oaks, California on Sunday when the helicopter went down, killing all aboard.

The NBA superstar’s death sent shockwaves around the world, particularly in the Los Angeles area where he played for 20 seasons.

The Philadelphia native came straight out of high school like Kevin Garnett a year before him and was drafted in the first round by the Charlotte Hornets, who traded him to Los Angeles where he played all 20 seasons for the Lakers.

He retired in 2016 having won five NBA championships with the Lakers, while making 18 All-Star teams and was named the NBA MVP in 2008.

Bryant was just starting to branch out into other ventures after his basketball life at the time of his death.

He released the book The Mamba Mentality: How I Play in 2018, where he reminisced on his career and how he played the game.

In 2019, he won an Oscar for Best Animated Short Film for Dear Basketball, becoming the first African-American to win in that category and also the first former athlete to be nominated or win in any Oscar category.
