Pink showed solidarity with mom-shamed Jessica Simpson by dyeing her daughter’s hair, too

Earlier this year, after an especially vicious set of mom-shaming comments on an Instagram photo in which her toddler son wasn’t wearing trousers, Pink declared that she was done posting pictures of her children. And for a while, she stuck to that pledge, posting mostly photos of herself and eventually reintroducing few and far-between shots with small glimpses of the kids. On Thursday, however, Pink found a reason to share an Instagram post focused specifically on her daughter: to stand up for a fellow famous mum.

When Jessica Simpson recently shared a photo of her seven-year-old daughter, Max, with a new colourful dip-dyed hairstyle, a number of Instagram users took exception to it. Judgemental commenters shared unsolicited opinions like, “So young its a shame,” and, “Isn’t she too young to have her hair dyed?” And while plenty of fans came to her defense, it was fellow vocalist Pink who showed some serious solidarity.

On her own Instagram grid, Pink shared side-by-side photos showing her personally dyeing eight-year-old daughter Willow’s bob and a closeup of the fabulous blue results. “I heard people were bummed on Jessica Simpson for letting her seven year old get her hair colored. So we thought we’d share what we did yesterday,” Pink wrote in the caption. And just in case that message didn’t come through clearly enough, she added the hashtags #bluehairdontcare, #getyourownkids, #parentpoliceareactuallyjustlonelysadpeople, #illdyeyourhairtoolosers, and #ohlookmanocomments.

The last hashtag refers to how she disabled comments on the photo, and it’s not surprising considering how she reacted to the ridiculous mum-shaming comments she received in April.

“I like to share my family. It’s my proudest achievement in my whole life. I’m prouder of my kids than anything I’ve ever done. And I won’t share them anymore,” she told Ellen DeGeneres in an interview. “I’m not posting pictures of them anymore. And I understand people saying: ‘You should have been more careful because you’re in the public eye,’ and they’re right — but there’s a nice way to say that. There’s a kind way to be online. And I’m open to kindness.”

And if trolls aren’t willing to show her that kindness, she’s happy to show it to fellow parents in the public eye like Jessica Simpson.
