A PILOTS’ union chief threatening strike chaos for holidaymakers has received an inflation-busting pay increase.
Balpa general secretary Brian Strutton, 59, saw his pay and perks rise more than £5,000 to £146,606, new accounts show.
His gross salary alone rose 3.75 per cent from £107,625 to £111,822.
The well travelled union boss plotting to wreck Brits’ holiday plans has already enjoyed a sunshine break this year.
News of the increase comes as 4,000 British Airways pilots could walk out after rejecting a three-year pay deal worth up to £20,000 for senior pilots. BA captains make an average £167,000 a year.
Pilots are after a bigger share of the company’s profits after it made £2billion last year.
Balpa and BA will resume talks this week.
Tory MP David Morris said: “This will leave a bitter taste in the mouth of any holidaymaker who could be caught up in this travel chaos.”
Meanwhile, one in five flights could be axed if a two-day strike at Heathrow this week goes ahead after Unite members including security staff and engineers rejected a 7.3 per cent pay deal over 2½ years.
