Piers Morgan has heaped praise on ex- Manchester United star Roy Keane for his punditry duties during a twitter exchange with former England international Gary Lineker.

Lineker’s original tweet read: “Is it me or does Roy Keane occasionally come over as being a bit grumpy?”, as Keane did not hold back on his assessment of Tottenham Hotspur’s display at home to Chelsea during Sky Sports’ coverage of the clash as pundit.

However, Morgan took an opposing view – as he often does when debating the ex-Barcelona striker on social media, as he wrote: “Keane’s the best pundit in the world, for any sport.”

Keane was particularly scathing in his review of Spurs’ performance after they were brushed aside 3-0 by reigning European champions Chelsea in their first London derby of the season.

Thiago Silva opened the scoring for Thomas Tuchel’s side after he rose highest to head home from Marcos Alonso’s corner, the Brazilian becoming the second oldest scorer in Chelsea’s Premier League history in the process – behind only Didier Drogba.

When dissecting the header, Keane did heap praise on Silva, explaining: “A lot of the time it’s about who wants to head the ball? We’ve seen his [Silva’s] defending, he had a tough start if you remember last season, for one or two games he was shaky.

“But he’s had a year in the game, he’s used to the pace, he’s surrounded by brilliant players. When the ball goes into these areas, some people want to defend and head the ball, Spurs don’t have that. People not doing the basics, stopping runners, being strong.”

However, the Irishman was not as complimentary of Spurs, claiming they failed to do the basics in their second successive defeat.

HAVE YOUR SAY! Is Roy Keane the best pundit around? Comment below.

“I can’t believe how poor Spurs were but you can have an off day and lose to quality but lack of desire like we saw with the second and probably third, all the goals. Talk about putting your body on the line”, Keane explained.

“The game is 90 minutes long, they done well in the first half, it doesn’t matter. It’s over the course of the game, you get through your difficult spells, try and survive, stay in the game. Chelsea had an amazing team you seen it with the substitutions they brought on, pure quality.

“Tottenham players are not doing the basics, I’m talking about closing someone down, putting your body on the line, that comes from within, we can criticise maybe the coach and a lot of other stuff but get to the ball, stop the shot, put your body on the line.”
