Piers Morgan: ‘Thanks for the support’ GMB host reassures fan he’s ‘fine’ amid petition

Earlier this week, a petition was created to get Piers Morgan, 54, sacked, due to his comments on gender identity.

Piers said he now identifies as a “two-spirit penguin” and even changed his Twitter picture to the animal.

The Good Morning Britain presenter’s comments were originally made in September in response to a BBC film which claimed there are now more than 100 genders.

As well as the petition, Piers has received a backlash online, which sparked concern from one fan.

The Life Stories’ host has told a fan on Twitter he is “absolutely fine” as they pointed out the abuse he has received online.

The Twitter user said: “#piersmorgan I hope all these keyboard warriors are proud of themselves with all the bullying and victimising of @piersmorgan.

“You must have given him serious mental issues with the horrible nasty words you’ve written and trying to get him sacked, how would you like it?? Exactly.”

Piers responded to the Good Morning Britain viewer: “Thanks for the support, but I’m absolutely fine.

“It just always amuses me that those who preach tolerance, empathy & kindness are often the most intolerant, vicious & abusive.”

Piers is now taking a break from the ITV morning show for half-term, and is currently soaking up the sun in Los Angeles, United States.

One of the tweets Piers responded to today was by author, Matt Heig, who said to him: “Hi Piers, given you’ve used your own large influential platform to regularly abuse mental health campaigners, gay rights campaigners, environmentalists, vegans, BLM, Sam Smith, Meghan Markle, Greta Thunberg, JK Rowling, feminists, snowflakes, everyone else, maybe just p*** off.”

To which Piers replied: “And… more abuse. Thanks Matt!”

On Wednesday, the father-of-four defended his co-star, Susanna Reid, after a Twitter user called her “utterly complicit”.

The tweet read: “Excuse me, why is #StanSusanna trending? She sits next to Piers Morgan every morning smiling away while he spouts bigotry & ignorance.

“She’s utterly complicit. People who don’t challenge morally unjust views in a public forum with a wide audience should be held accountable too.”

Susanna hit back at the viewer’s claim, writing: “I spend my mornings challenging the views of @piersmorgan.

“I spend the rest of the day being told *checks notes* I don’t challenge him. Your choice not to watch the programme but at least have an informed view.”

Piers went on to call his friend and Good Morning Britain co-star a “strong woman” as he slammed the user for being “nasty and sexist”.

“Actually, @susannareid100 is a strong, independent woman that challenges me all the time,” he wrote back.

“So this is just nasty, sexist claptrap & so sadly typical of the vile, hypocritical ‘woke’ brigade.”

Good Morning Britain airs weekdays on ITV from 6am.
